Known for innovation, Turfway Park is one of the nation’s most respected racing operations. The track was an early adopter of intertrack wagering and full-card simulcasting, advances that in the 1980s changed racing across the country. In 2000, Turfway introduced FasTrack Rewards, one of racing’s first loyalty programs and, in 2004, was the first track to install the Super Carrel, an all-in-one handicapping station. In 2005, Turfway became the first track in North America to install a Polytrack surface for racing.

Owned by Keeneland Association and Rock Gaming, Turfway benefits from leadership committed to improvement. Keeneland introduced Polytrack on its training track in 2004 and was key to its installation at Turfway a year later. Polytrack consists of the visible surface, a mix of sand, fibers, rubber, and wax, and a hidden complex that drains water vertically. The result is a surface consistent at every step and fast regardless of the weather. More important, the surface has significantly reduced joint injuries and breakdowns.

FasTrack Rewards is modeled after casino programs. In mid-2007, Turfway refined the program by introducing Elite, Platinum and Gold levels that reward increased play with increased benefits.

Turfway Park’s two race meets – Winter/Spring and Holiday – are anchored by a stakes program that includes the Grade III Bourbonette Oaks and the Grade III Spiral Stakes.

The Spiral Stakes was created in 1972 as a race for horses “spiraling up” to the Kentucky Derby. The race has produced two Kentucky Derby winners, three Preakness winners, two Belmont winners, numerous other Grade I winners and several Eclipse Award honorees. Among the race’s stars are Summer Squall, Prairie Bayou, Serena’s Song, Hansel, Lil E. Tee, Perfect Drift, Birdstone, Flower Alley, Hard Spun, and Animal Kingdom.
